Ana and Marcelo love all animals, but dogs have a special place in their hearts. They both grew up with dogs as family members and currently have three dogs of their own, two rescue Shih-Tzus (Panda and Charlotte) and a Golden Retriever (Olivia).
Ana loves dogs so much that she studied to be a Vet. School taught her that clinics and hospitals were not her thing, so she focused on caring for instead of treating. Since then, she has provided services like home consulting, dog boarding, pet sitting, adoption/rescue and senior dog orientation.
Ana also has a Major in Psychology and specializes in canine behaviour. She is continuously updating her skills, taking various courses in dog walking, special needs dog nutrition, massage therapy, calming signals, and much more.
As dog parents, Ana and Marcelo felt like there was a serious lack of good boarding options available. The places they found mostly provided cookie-cutter experiences – without the attention and personalized service dog pawrents want and expect. They didn’t like the model of having several dogs cared for by only a few people, left crated all day or without exercising bodies and minds, and treated the same despite their personalities… these are things that Ana and Marcelo passionately believe should not be part of a boarding experience.
So in 2013, Ana and Marcelo decided to combine their passion for dogs with a business idea and started Barking Love: a dog boarding and daycare that’s all about loving pets and providing customized experiences.
“Barking Love offers a customized experience that makes your dog feel at home. We know all dogs are unique, with different habits and needs: some are very independent and energetic, others are seniors or have quieter temperaments and want to take it easy, and some simply want a human by their side. At our home, they are free to explore any room in the house, doing what they like to do, whether it is socializing and playing, or just chilling (even on our beds with us). Every minute of their stay is tailored, so pawrents can feel confident that their dog is well taken care of.
We also have a special place in our hearts for rescue, special needs and senior dogs. We’ve grown up rescuing dogs and either adopting them or finding the pawfect homes for them. Most of our dogs lived until they were 16, some requiring special assistance. One of our most beloved ones, Bianca, had a degenerative disease and required assistance to walk. We tried different things at the time and eventually, we got her adorable pink wheels.
We think these dogs deserve to be well-treated and loved as the precious unique furbabies they are and that’s why we work the way we do. We’ve also been fostering dogs for Coveted Canines since Panda’s adoption, in 2016″.
